Music is "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield

The WRITTEN Initiative is an effort to establish student written newspapers in the intermediate schools of Berkeley County - and beyond! Our school's newspaper, Smoke Signals, was established in 2006 and is the pilot newspaper for this program.

Student written newspapers allow students to practice their writing and communication skills. The students who read the newspaper improve their literacy skills by reading about their own school through the words of their peers. School newspapers also allow the parents and community to learn about the events in their children's classrooms through the students themselves.

Teachers and schools wishing to become involved in The WRITTEN Initiative and Mentors Ink may access the information pages and student guide pages for newspaper staff members below. All files are PDF and you will need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader to open them. For more information, please contact Erin Lloyd Sponaugle at esponaug@access.k12.wv.us.
